A little bit about me

Hi there,

I’m so happy that you’ve found me. I’m Jen, a nutritionist, postpartum doula, wife and mother to two beautiful children.

Since my early twenties, my career path has been quite diverse. Initially, upon leaving high school in 2010, my heart was set on completing a midwifery degree. When that door didn’t open for me, I ventured into children's services, earning a number of certifications. At the age of 21, I finally entered into the world of midwifery as a mature age student, where I spent four years immersed in study and practical learning. Despite the years of dedication, I made the decision to step away from the degree just a month out of graduating. I had come to the realisation that it was the nurturing and supportive essence of midwifery practices that truly resonated with me.

Throughout this period of study and self-discovery, I also embraced roles in pathology and medical administration. I look back and consider these invaluable experiences that excelled my customer service, healthcare skills and knowledge base, which has helped me immensely.

From the young age of nine, when I first encountered the bewildering world of periods, health and nutrition became an integral part of my journey. Those early days marked the beginning of a relentless journey with debilitating periods and PMS, later being diagnosed as endometriosis. Throughout my teens and into young adulthood, my life was riddled with a series of hormonal treatments. These ranged from the pill to hormone replacements, including zoladex - these put a temporary halt to my monthly cycles for just over a year. Though my health philosophy has dramatically shifted since then, I don’t regret those medical interventions. They were most definitely a lifeline that allowed me to live life as a young adult.

My health journey didn’t end with endometriosis; gut health issues were also front and centre. I had always wanted to have children so after years of medical interventions, I had to take a new approach in managing my endometriosis and gut health.

Embracing a holistic approach, I turned to diet, exercise and alternative therapies. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one where lifestyle interventions became my medicine, guiding me towards a path of sustainable healing and well-being.

2020 was a transformative year for me. I fell pregnant with my son and I also embarked on a new academic venture, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition & Exercise. In 2023, I completed my degree and, in doing so, reignited my passion for wanting to support other women with their health through nutrition and lifestyle approaches. In an attempt to combine my nutrition passion with my passion for supporting other mothers, I decided to extend my expertise into the role of a postpartum doula. Before I had my daughter in January this year, I was able to complete my certification as a postpartum doula, marking the beginning of a new chapter.

After years of study, work, my own pregnancies and births and a deep desire to support other women, Mothers in Bloom was created. A space where mothers can learn how to create daily nourishing habits through nutrition and wellbeing practices and a safe space to plan and support their postpartum journey.

I can’t wait to cross paths with you.

Love and nourishment x
